True Colors Soundtrack Review

Vocal tracks are nothing new to Sonic games. They've been around since the early 1990s since (to my knowledge) Sonic CD with popular numbers like Sonic Boom (from the USA version of Sonic CD), and Cosmic Eternity (from the Japanese version of Sonic CD). However, it seems that they've become more the norm with Sonic Adventure. Practically every Sonic game since then has seen it's share of lyrical tracks.

You know something else that isn't new? Sega's love for releasing compilation albums. I've lost count of how many of these have come out, let alone the ones that have specifically focused on everyone's favorite blue hedgehog. That's OK, because True Colors: The Best of Sonic the Hedgehog Part 2 (they really need to work on making shorter album titles) could very well be the best Sonic compilation album. At least until Sega finally decides to give Sonic a mammoth sized multi disc album release that the Phantasy Star Shinobi and Dayton games have seen. But until then, we'll just make do with True Colors, which is still a pretty sweet collection.

With so many vocal tracks on the numerous Sonic games, it can be hard to keep up with all of them, so True Colors is a welcome "greatest hits" compilation, and in my opinion, the best one yet. It spans numerous Sonic games, taking songs from some of the best (Sonic CD) and worst (Shadow the Hedgehog) titles. I think one thing most Sonic fans would agree with is that the music from the games has been overall solid throughout the hedgehog's history.

I actually listened to this album far more times than I imagined I would. Among my favorite songs are Un-gravify, Dreams of an Absolution (both versions on this album rock) the aforementioned Cosmic Eternity, Waking Up, and E.G.G.M.A.N. Of the 18 tracks on this album, only two of them are non vocal; Sonic3 MegaD Mix, a sound effects style remix of Sonic 3, and the very awesome Theme of E-102y. There are a ton of other popular songs they could have used from Sonic Adventure in place of Theme of E-102y, (My Sweet Passion is also a part of this collection as is a remix of Open Your Heart) but I think they made the right choice. That track has always been one of the best Sonic tunes ever composed.

Remember the Sonic the Hedgehog animated movie from the '90s? If so, sorry to trudge up bad memories, but a rather obscure, but fan favorite track made it's way to this album and it happens to be from that abomination of a movie. There were three things good about that flick; Sonic yelling "SHUT UP, TAILS!", the kickin' South Island track and the ending theme, Look-a-like. Regrettably, South Island is absent from this collection, but a short version of Look-a-like is here. To my knowledge, this is the first time Look-a-like has ever seen an album release. Pity the full version isn't here, but we'll take what we can get.

I really can't say there are any bad songs on this album, but there are some songs I'm in less favor of like Lazy Days and maybe the remix of Open Your Heart, but it's not like either of those songs make me cringe when I listen to them. Far from it. They just aren't my bag. Personally, I think this is the best collection of vocal Sonic tracks and maybe even the best compilation Sonic album. Recommended for any and all Sonic fans.

4.5/5

OCR Turns 10

As of December 11, 2009, Overclocked Remix is now ten years old. As I've said in the past, I wasn't there in the beginning, but when I discovered the site, it became a companion for video game remixes. There's a lot of tallented peopled that have helped make OCR the site it has become and I honestly believe many of them could make music professionally someday if they choose to do so.

Happy 10 year anniversary OCR! Here's to another 10 years!

Arrrgggh, Not Again!!!

Built in 1957, the Laguna Seca is one of the most famous tracks in all of racing. It's also known for being that one level for some gamers and has once again become the bane of my existence.

The Laguna Seca has haunted me since Gran Turismo 2, both in license tests and in actual races. It was also a track I dreaded running my tires over in Gran Turismo 3. I started up Gran Turismo 4 over the weekend and guess what real life track has returned? The track has 11 turns, the most (in)famous being "the corkscrew." This blind turn has messed me up more times than I can count, even when I know it's coming. I must have done a license test the other day for over 20 minutes because of this stupid track. I can only imagine the horrors this track has caused actual racers in real life.

The above image gives you a better view of what the curve looks like. It may not look all that threatening and to those that haven't raced on it, well, ignorance is bliss.

It's been a while since this track has gotten me this worked up and since I just started GT4, I doubt this is the end of my frustration.

Best. Picture. Ever.

That is all.

The "Evolution" of Bad Mega Man Box Art

The American cover for the original Mega Man game has... shall we say, come along way. Many of us consider it the epitome of horrendous game box art, but it's grown to a so-bad-it's good status. In an unbelievable shout out, Capcom actually made the American box art for Mega Man 9 resemble that of the very first game. Heck, it even made it on t-shirts!

The upcoming Mega Man 10 looks to be repeating the trend and I must say, it looks even more bad-awesome. I especially like how they designed Proto Man. This game cannot get here soon enough!

Mega Man 10 is Coming

If I had taken off my headphones when this news first hit the net, I bet I could have heard countless Mega Man fans all over the world shouting "YES! YES! THANK YOU, GOD, YEEEEESSS!!!" Me, I'm as giddy as the anyone else, but not without some reservations. I'd like to be able to slide and charge this time around.

IGN's Top 10 Mario Suits

One of the many awesome things about the Mario games over the years have been the various suits Mario gets to use. A tux? Old news. Real men roll out with green boots (Kuribo's Shoe), Raccoon Tail's, Frog Suit's Metal Caps, and Penguin gear. IGN has selectd ten of their favorite Mario suits. I may not agree with everything on the list, but it is a nice, interesting, brief read, nonetheless. You'll hear no complaints from me with their number one choice, though.

Another Freebie

Once again, I have received another free game from my friend and co-worker Anthony. The game comes in the form of the PS2 version of Resident Evil 4. I'm not exactly a stranger to the RE series. I owned the GameCube remake of the first RE years ago, but I never came close to finishing it (the control scheme was one of the things that drove me nuts) and I traded it in.

Now I'm not a huge fan of RE but since RE4 was given to me from a good buddy, I've decided to not only play this one through, I'm going to keep it in my collection. Thanks again, Anthony!

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Free Get!

I'd like to give a big special thanks to my friend and co-worker Anthony for giving me a copy of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Since he was getting MGS3: Subsistence, he was more than happy to give me MGS3. Originally, I was gonna hold off on getting MGS3 because of the extras in MGS3: Subsistence (like the MSX versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake), but who am I to turn down another free game? Also, since I can be a completest at times, it will be nice to have the first MGS3 game.

Thanks again, Anthony!

PlayStation 2 Turns 9

On October 26, 2000, the PlayStation 2 launched in North America. It was quite a hyped up piece of machinery. Not only could it play PS1 and PS2 titles, it also functioned as DVD player (even if it was a sub-par DVD player).

Do you remember the USA PS2 launch? I sure do. Sony had originally promised 1 million units for the system's state side launch, but the number was cut it half for whatever reason. To say the shortage created chaos would be an understatement. The things some folks did to get one of these black boxes was just insane (The PS3 launch was actually similar to the PS2's.) Let's just say that the demand for the PS2 brought out some of humanities's worst qualities.

I didn't get a PS2 on launch day like my dad and I had planned. Even people that had reserved a system had gotten the shaft due to aforementioned cut in units. It took some time, but I was able to secure a PS2 because I was working at Toys 'R Us at the time and I happened to be working in the back when a shipment came in. Naturally there was a catch: If you bought a PS2 at Toys 'R Us (or at least the one I worked at), you had to buy two games or else you got no system. So that was $400 for a PS2! Was it worth it? Well, it was the must have item of the holiday season and even months afterwords it was tough to keep the thing on the shelf. The games looked and sounded amazing, but the system was plagued with a software drought shortly after it's launch. The drought didn't end until the Spring/Summer of 2001 where a steady flow of quality titles had finally kicked in.

These days you can get a PS2 for chump change and if you don't own a PS3, then the PS2 is the next best thing. There are a ton of games to choose from, many of which are at bargain prices. I have over 100 PS2 games and my library still isn't complete. Even if I didn't take into account the PS2's backwards compatibility feature, the PS2 stands fine on it's own because it has such a huge selection for gamers.

In a struggling economy where this gamer can't afford next gen hardware, the PS2 has been a dear friend to me, proving hours upon hours of gaming thrills. Botched launch and software drought aside, the PS2 has proven to be one of the best consoles in gaming, at least in my opinion.

Chip Tuned Rockman Review

This is certainly an interesting choice for an album arrangement. The major of Rockman/Mega Man remix albums aren't done in this fashion, but after hearing this one, I'd love to see Capcom release more like it.

When I first heard of Chip Tuned Rockman, I expected that we'd be treated to the usual Rockman 2 boot-licking that we've seen from so many arrange and remix tracks by fans. Not only does Chip Tuned Rockman have a wealth of composers, both from the fan community and those that compose music professionally, the range of tracks from the Rockman games is to say the least, expansive. There are 20 tracks on this album and nearly every game in the classic Rockman series is covered.

Two things really impress me about this album. One, the quality of the music. Being a chiptuned based album, you might think the tracks here are simply NES-style covers, and you'd be wrong. Sure, the music here does sound like it belongs in an NES games but these are full blown arrangements and pretty spectacular ones at that. The composers here are truly masters at what they do and it makes me yearn for them to come back for a second album. I only wish Bun Bun (the composer of Mega Man 3's soundtrack) could have been involved.

The second thing that really wowed me is the aforementioned amount of games represented.
There are songs from Rockman, Rockman 2, Rockman 3, Rockman 4, Rockman 5, Rockman 6, Rockman 7, Rockman 8, Rockman & Forte, Rockman Battle & Chase, Mega Man: The Wily Wars, and even Rockman World 5 on the Game Boy. With so many games being covered, everyone is bound to have more than a few favorites. That also means that some of the lesser appreciated songs get some love. Groundman got some incredible respect here, as did Wind Carry My Words (Battle & Chase).

My hope is that this album will spark a major interest for remixers to do something else besides Dr. Wily Stage 1 from Mega Man 2. There's a ton of great music out there that shouldn't just be limited to the Mega Man 2 and 3.

My personal score for this album is a 4.5/5. I've listened to it more than a dozen times now and I'm still not sick of it. Any and every fan of Mega Man needs to hear these tunes.

Capcom's At It Again!

If you haven't bought Street Fighter IV, you might wanna wait until March-April of 2010. Remember how many versions of SFII Capcom put out in the '90s? And don't forget the different versions of SFIII. SFIV looks to be getting similar treatment.

SNAFU totally called this one back in March this year.

Symphonic Fantasies

Symphonic Fantasies is a orchestra concert that was played in Cologne Germany on September 12th. Suites range from Kingdom Hearts, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana and Final Fantasy. I soooo wish I could have seen this live but videos of it are up on YouTube. It is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! I'd wager that even people that don't know each piece of music, or those that aren't even into video game music would really appreciate this. Go watch all five parts and be awed.

Ditching Yoshi

Let's be honest; we've all left Yoshi to fall to his doom at one time or another in Super Mario World. Yoshi is so easily spooked that he'll run off at the drop of a hat and this makes me feel less guilty about leaving him when I need to save my own hide. Besides, it isn't like there's only one Yoshi. There's a whole island with Yoshi's strutting around all over the place.

Monkey Stole My Girlfriend!

Last night I completed Super Mario 64 with all 120 Stars. I was so happy because it was the first time I'd ever gotten all 120. I even went and saw Yoshi on the castle roof and got 100 lives for all my hard work. Not only that, but my triple jump had been enhanced! Now that I've gotten that achievement out of the way, I can move on to other Mario titles.

There are numerous versions of Donkey Kong, but by far, my favorite one is the Game Boy version known as Donkey Kong GB or Donkey Kong '94 to eliminate confusion. Just because this game is on a handheld system doesn't mean it's some stripped down inferior port of the arcade and console versions. Quiet the opposite. DK '94 is a beast of a game. It has the four levels from the arcade game (most home versions lacked all four stages for some reason) and 97 brand new platform/puzzle designed stages.

Mario is no longer the weakling he was in the original DK. He can fall from a considerable height and not die. On top of that, Mario has sweet acrobatic moves allowing him to jump higher and deflect certain objects that would otherwise spell doom for him were he standing up right.

The battle field isn't just a conrstruction site anymore. Mario chases Donkey Kong through a cities, forests, jungles, ships, factories, etc. Pauline must be some woman for Mario to be chasing Donkey Kong all over the world.

I think the thing that amazes most people about DK '94 is how well-made it is. Most titles for the Game Boy aren't nearly as long or has as much depth. The stages pack excellent design, the puzzles are clever and the music is pretty catchy. DK '94 is easily one of the greatest Mario games out there. Believe me when I say that this game deserves to rub shoulders with Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario 64. It really is that good.

I'm currently on World 3, playing the game on the Game Boy Player, via the GameCube. Regretabbly I can't take this game on the go because I traded in my GBA SP to get a DS years ago and I found out the hard way that the system was not backwards compatible with original Game Boy titles. The last time I played this title was in 2002 on the original GBA model. Maybe I'm rusty but I died way more times than I should have in the first world. Either that, or GameCube's control pad is just too tiny to play on. Guess it's time to finally put my Super Game Boy back into action. The color on it for DK '94 looks better than it does on the Game Boy Player anyway.

Mario Fever (AKA The Itch Part 2)

As I stated a few entries back, I've been bitten by the Mario bug so I'm knee deep in Mario games. I've already completed Super Mario World and Yoshi's Island. I was aiming for all 96 level goals in World, but the last few level exits were just too demanding. Yoshi's Island seemed to annoy me far more than I remember and I don't just mean Baby Mario's whining.

The last few weeks haven't been spent trucking away for the Power Stars in Super Mario 64. Super Mario 64 DS is a great port/remake. You can play as a few extra characters and the touched up visuals are very nice. Still, I prefer the N64 original so I hooked up my old system and to my surprise, not only does the old girl still work, my saved game from 1996 is still on there. (I left off with 94 Stars in case you were wondering)

Since I began a new game weeks ago, I've reached up to 95 Stars, some of which are Stars I've never gotten before. I actually managed to get all the Stars in Tall Tall Mountain, Lethal Lava Land, and Tiny-Big Island, yes even the 100 coin Stars.

More than 10 years after it's release, Super Mario 64 is still an exceptional title and my all-time favorite 3D platformer. It doesn't get too bogged down with an overabundance of item collecting like other titles on the N64 (and in the genre for that matter) did. The levels are huge but not so much that they overwhelm you. SM64 also has one of my favorite soundtracks from the Mario games, standout themes being "Inside the Castle Walls," "Super Mario 64 Main Theme", Dire, Dire Docks," "Metal Mario," "Koopa's Road," and "Koopa's Theme." Along with all of that, the game is just flat out fun to play, moreso than a lot of game's released today. Now I say a lot of games are fun, but not all games are on the same level of fun (I think you get what I'm saying.)

I'm thinking of putting together my own list of the greatest Mario games of all-time. If I do it, I'll post it up here in my blog. If I choose to arrange them in order (which I really am considering), Super Mario 64 will more than likely rank pretty high on the list.

Who would have thought that such evil, such vile deeds could come from one of gaming's most recognizable scientist. Don't believe me? Read it for yourself.

FFIV: Echoes of Betrayal, Light of Redemption

Final Fantasy IV, even by today's standards has an incredible soundtrack that has seen numerous remix and arrange albums. It was only a matter of time before OverClocked ReMix took a stab at arranging the game's tracks. More than one year in the making, 46 tracks, spanning 3 discs, and over 30 remixers make up Final Fantasy IV: Echoes of Betrayal, Light of Redemption. Just seeing the trailer for this baby got me stoked.

Like all good things from OCR, this one is 100% free. A lot of effort went into this digital release so give it a listen and post some comments on OCR's YouTube page or on the OCR site.

The Itch: Super Mario Games

Every now and then I get what I like to call "The Itch." The Itch is simply an urge to play through a series of games, usually something old-school. In the past, The Itch has come in the form of Sonic games and Mega Man games. Over the last week and a half, I've been scratching my Mario itch.

I decided to begin with the first Mario game I ever played: Super Mario Bros. I was pretty rusty. Lost a lot of lives. Wanting to finish the game in a hurry so I could move on to Super Mario Bros. 2, I warped to World 4 the first chance I got. After hat, I warped to World 5. And after that I lost all my lives and saw the Game Over screen. Maybe I've become too attached to the save system in the Super Mario All-Stars remake version because I do remember finishing that one when I played it last. Perhaps I've become too soft with the all the luxuries modern day gaming has provided. Whatever the case, not being able to finish the NES version of Super Mario Bros. was quiet the blow to my gaming manhood.

Super Mario Bros. 2. I don't care if this is the black sheep of the series. I'd much rather play this altered character sprite version of Doki Doki Panic than the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2, AKA, Satan's Super Mario Bros. 1.5. Similar to my play of Super Mario Bros. I warped to World 4, then to World 5 (or was it World 6? I can't recall), lost all my lives, saw the Game Over screen. But since Super Mario Bros. 2 actually gives you continues, I thought I'd give it another shot. When it became obvious I was not gonna see that ending where Mario dreamed the whole thing up, I knew it was time to call it quits.

I LOVE Super Mario Bros. 3. This one is my all-time favorite Mario game, without question. The level design, the power-ups; everything about it just screams brilliance. Though I did die a lot, I did much better with Super Mario Bros. 3 than I did the previous two titles. Nearly 20 years later, Pipe Land still annoyes me. One thing I did find very interesting is that in World 8, I was able to zip past every single Hand Trap on the map. This was the first time I'd ever done that. I didn't even know it could be done. Go figure.

Right now I'm working my way through Super Mario World. Great game, but in my opinion, not the best Mario platformer. One of the best, for sure, but if you're still reading, you already know what Mario platformer I think is the best. *Ahem* I just made it to World 6. I'm a bit surprised that I cleared three worlds in one night, this includes finding all the secret exits. I'll probably finish the game up tomorrow.

At the rate I'm going, I'll probably fire up the Nintendo 64 and see how many stars I can collect on Super Mario 64.

It's a Mii!

Yes, Virginia, that is what I look like in Mii form. One of the best features on the Wii is the ability to create a digitized version of yourself, dubbed a Mii. This nifty tool has become so popular that you don't even need a Wii to make use of it. There are various programs on the net that allow you to create a Mii, but the best one I've seen isn My Avatar Editor. It's super simple easy to use, fun and free. Give it a whirl!

Good Friends Rocks!

So my birthday was Thursday, July 2 and buddy of mine had just found out via facebook. He called me up and wanted to take to any place of my choosing to eat. Much to his surprise, I picked McDonald's because I had no desire to eat any place fancy. (You should have seen the look on his face. He told me he was expecting to drop $40.) It had been forever since I had a Big Mac. I'd almost forgotten what they tasted like.

After that, he asked me what PS2 or DS game I'd buy if I were getting one. I already have a ton of games I've yet to play and I actually had to stop and think what was the last game I purchased. I don't remember the exact conversation we had, but I really couldn't think of any one game I'd buy. So we drove for a while and we pulled up to a mini mall. He said "Guess where we're going?" I jokingly said UPS because it was one of the stores at the complex but I already knew where we were headed. Among the stores was a GameStop and I'd already deduced what we were doing there.

Lots of games to choose from and he was gonna buy me whatever I wanted. Of course I already knew I wasn't gonna go overboard on price. A good 20$-$30 game would more than make me happy. Since I already had a stupid amount of PS2 games to play, I setteled on a DS title. In the end, I setteled on Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen. Despite having only played the first two games and the demo of VIII (I actually own the first Dragon Quest as Dragon Warrior on NES, Dragon Quest VII and Dragon Quest VIII. VII hasn't even been opened and I haven't even started VIII), I've always been a fan of the DQ games. I plan to make DQIV the first DQ game I actually beat and I'll eventually work my way through the rest of the games.

I'd like to thank my friend Justin Sivak for buying the game for me and more, for being a good friend.

Mega Man Forever Shows Lots of Promise!

There are a number of upcoming Mega Man/Rockman rom hacks in the works, but out of all of them, the one I'm most looking forward to is Mega Man Forever.

Mega Man Forever is a hack of Mega Man 4. Can you believe it? Someone actually thought to hack MM4, one of my favorite and unfortunately, under appreciated Mega Man games.

MMF takes elements not just from the NES MM titles, but the Game Boy and X games as well. One weapon allows for air dashing, Sub-Tanks replace E-Tanks and there's even a "WARNING" siren when you enter a boss chamber, complete with pre battle speeches.

What's more, the level design is unlike that of most Mega Man titles. Some stages are puzzle-drive and have a few mini bosses and not just repeat mini bosses like the giant Cat's in Top Man's stage from MM3.

Check out the videos and get stoked!

Doujin Freebies

These days finding fan albums for free seems to be a rarity. However, I did come across three very interesting doujin game albums and the creators have been more than happy to offer them to the game music-loving public for, you guessed it, free.

Castlevania SOTN has, in my opinion some of the best fan-made arrangements for one of the greatest soundtracks in the series (Bear in mind that Castlevania music in general is awesome). I figure just about everyone has played SOTN so it shouldn't be too hard to recognize what tracks are remixes of what. The whole album is gold but my pesonal favorite track is "Illusion Hop," which is a remix of "Dance of Illisions." (The track plays when Richter fights Dracula at the beginning of the game.)

Download

Anyone that owned a Nintendo 64 has undoubtedly played GoldenEye 007. A group of hardcore fans got together and created an updated version of GoldenEye using a Half-Life mod. The visuals have been updated and so has the soundtrack. The tracks don't do too much diviating from the original source but what remixing there is is quite good and the revamping is very impressive.

Download

If you haven't played Battle Garegga, or have at least heard the soundtrack, it may be a bit harder to appreciate Battle Garegga Anthology. For the uninitiated, Battle Garegga is an arcade shoot 'em up and a pretty intense one at that. If you game on MAME, I recommend trying it out. Anyhoo, the arrange tracks presented here are pretty polished. How this album only got ranked three and a half stars at VGMdb.net is beyond me.

Mega Man 2.5D!!!

Most people probably cringe at the thought of a Mega Man game in 3D. After all, Mega Man X7 was a prime example of what not to do when making a Mega Man title in the third dimension. But what if it were halfway, ya know, 2.5D? Someone is already making the idea look very promising. I sooooooooo want this and you should too!

A Banner! But Not Just Any Banner!

An amazing banner for an amazing game. (No, I didn't make it). That is all.

Here Comes a New Challenger II Turbo!

I really enjoyed the first Here Comes a New Challenger. It was hilarious and full of much truth in the lyrics. Imagine my surprise when I found out a Turbo edition was already out! I just got done downloading it, but if it's anything like the original, I know I'll love this one. You can download it for free or get yourself a pressed copy via pre-order. Just make sure you get his baby in some shape or form.

Rockman World Sound Collection?

Capcom has put out an audio collection for Rockman 1~6 and Rockman X1~6. So where is our collection for the Game Boy Mega Man games? Not the GBA and DS Network/EXE titles, I mean the old Mega Man I~V/Rockman World titles. To my knowledge one isn't planned and that really is a shame. In my opinon, some of the Game Boy renditions of the tracks from the NES games are superior. The first boss theme for Mega Man IV/Rockman World 4 is loads better than the boss tune used in NES MM4. The Game Boy games also had some great original tracks such as Ballade's theme and Wily Battle, both from MMIV. Though it isn't hard to find mp3s for these games. A quick net search easily turns them up, but I sure wouldn't mind having something official.

We Have a Winner

I've finally decided on a cover for the Rockman Rom Hack Audio Collection. Since all the hacks are based of Mega Man 2, I think this one is very appropriate. I just wish I knew who drew this!

Possible Cover Pt. 2

These are two more images I'm considering for use for the Rockman Rom Hack Audio Collection I'm putting together. The first picture is drawn by Rockman manga artist Hiroshi Ariga. I'm a huge fan of his work. No clue who did the second pitcture but I love it. Again, thoughts?

Don't Call It a Come Back

Everyone and I do mean everyone has played Punch-Out!! (originally titled Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!!) and it's sequel, Super Punch-Out!! Or at the least everyone should have. For many gamers, these have been the definitive boxing games, outranking titles that portray the sport realistically.

15 long years have passed since the last Punch-Out!! title. Why there wasn't a showing on the N64 or even the GameCube is anyone's guess. But ultimately, that doesn't matter. What does matter is that Little Mac has finally returned in a game for the Wii simply titled Punch-Out!!
Old favorites return like Glass Joe and King Hippo. Those of you that hate Mr. Sandman (like me), cower in fear because he's back and he's still a jerk.

I haven't played this one yet, but I've heard nothing but great things about it. If your Wii is collecting dust, grab this puppy and let the good times roll.

It's That Time Again!

This is a pretty short album but it's straight and to the point. Video game covers done to gritty rock. Did I mention that it's free?

Konami has released soundtracks for just about every Metal Gear game. All except this one, Metal Gear: Ghost Babel. Known in the USA on the Game Boy Color as simply Metal Gear Solid, this is, in my humble opinion, one of the best Metal Gear soundtracks out there and the fact that it never received an official release is criminal. Thanks to some Metal Gear fans, an unofficial soundtrack has surfaced. Before Metal Gear went on to have a Hollywood calibur musical score it was originally the bleeps and blops of every other game soundtrack of the '80s. Of course that doesn't mean it wasn't addicting stuff. Even the very first Metal Gear game has some of the best music ever composed from NES hardware. Ghost Babel is a wonerful reminder of how epic retro Metal Gear music sounds. You won't be disappointed with this one.
