A few days ago, images of the cover of the final issue of Nintendo Power hit the web. And, well, doesn't it bring a bitter sweet nostalgic tear to your eye? It's a clay mold of New Super Mario Bros. U, recreating the very first issue of Nintendo Power that was covering Super Mario Bros. 2. Man. Does the crew at Nintendo Power know how to tug a gamer's heart strings or what?
The final issue of Nintendo Power should be on the news stands on December 11. If the cover is this good, just image what's inside.
I don't mean to sound like a dick, but one less video game magazine is not a bad thing. In fact, I wish all of them could just go away. Their bias and money inspired reviews are just made to make people buy games. Seriously, when was the last time a HUGE title go lower than, say, a 7/10?
ReplyDeleteVG Magazines are there for one thing: to sell games and make money.
a fitting end

ReplyDeleteThe same could be said for a lot of video game websites what splash ads for high profile games all over their sites. Really, if all game mags died, it would hardly be the end of the bias. And not all magazines are like that.
Having had the 1st issue, there is a sort of symmetry to seeing the cover of this last one. I think it's pretty cool actually - a good note to end things on.
ReplyDeleteGotta disagree with Tom on this one - I don't think it makes you sound like a dick - you're just stating an opinion, but like Reggie said, I don't feel that gaming sites are really all that different in general either.
Even if I don't necessarily agree with their review scores, I enjoy reading articles and seeing screenshots of upcoming games and things in the industry I might not have known about otherwise.
