VG Soundtrack of the Day 016: Axelay
These days, Konami is known for being the butt of countless jokes. It isn't as if the company's current reputation isn't deserved but back in the day, they were a much loved third party developer. Yeah, you could point to super obvious examples like the Metal Gear series but what about the one-off that was the SNES title, Axelay? This marvelous shoot 'em up had top down and side scrolling levels with a stellar visual audio presentation. This is an early SNES game (Axelay released in 1992) and it was already showing what the system was capable of. Every stage has it's own background theme as well as a boss track unique to that level, so outside of the stage clear jingle, you won't be hearing much in the way of repeated songs during gameplay. My favorite level them is Colony and my favorite boss theme is Bio-tech. This game SO needs another re-release.
