Yes, I'm late posting about this but if you know anything about me, I'm late to everything. I've decided to embrace that about myself and just talk about stuff even the iron has long since cooled.
I'd almost forgotten that Konami, a company that used to be one of the premier third party developers, is a crap these days. That Castlevania Advance Collection we got in late 2021 was baller. But then Konami just hadda go and remind me and the rest of the world how much they suck by doing a Castlevania themed NFT auction for the series 35th anniversary. If a certain Konami hashtag has not been in use as of late, it is time to bring that sucker back.
For those of you that may not be in the know NFT stands for non-fungible token. To be perfectly honest, I don't feel like going into too much depth about NFTs because they are literally nothing. Nada. Zip. Zero. Zilch. You put down actually money for something you don't really own. Jim Sterling summed up what NFTs are in one of their November Jimquisitions. Given the nature of NFTs, it makes perfect sense as to why Konami would jump on the NFT train.
When it came time to celebrate Konami's 50th anniversary in 2019, the company rolled out some excellent digital compilations of their retro games from their arcade and console titles. Say what you will about Konami (and there's a lot to be said) but the Contra, Koanmi and Castlevania Anniversary Collections were awesome and some of the most effort ever thrown behind Konami published titles. Konami can care when they want to.
If this NFT Castlevania auction was the only way Konami plans to "celebrate" the series 35th anniversary, its a very lousy, zero hearted way to go about it. But then, disappointment is mostly what we get from them these days, so it really isn't a surprise. Though, I do find it mildly surprising that idiots actually put money on these NFTs. At the end of the day, Konami racked in $162K from this Castlevania NFT auction. Someone even spent $26,000 on the map from the NES Castlevania of Drac's castle. Do people not know how to right click and save?
You know, I think I lost some brain cells pondering how people are so stupid that they would actually put money down on this stuff. My next post will be about something bright, positive and pink and will help wash this nasty NFT taste outta my mouth.
