Well if you don't mind archaic visuals, I think the first two Ridge Racer games (Ridge Racer and Ridge Racer Revolution) are a lot of fun. The emphasis in this series is arcade style racing. Lots of drifting and power sliding. The newer ones on the PS3 and 360 are good choices as well.

I've actually not tried this series before? Any personal recommendation on where to start?
